Copyright

Before uploading any files, you have to check a box acknowledging that you hold copyright over or have the right to reproduce the material you are about to upload. Legal ownership over files you publish will be your personal responsibility, so please do not upload materials you are not allowed to upload. That means:

  • the artefact is owned by youself or
  • you are allowed to reproduce and distribute it, i.e. it does not violate any copyright legislation and
  • the artefact also adheres to the Terms and Conditions of the Mahara site you are using

Just to remind you again, you will have the legal responsibility for anything you upload into your files area.

File Quota

Every user have 500MB space. You can check your file quota in the sidebar in your ‘Files’ area.

Create Folder and Upload File

▼ click on the Content > Files tab.

▼ We recommend that you start creating folders first to get yourself a more organized file system. Don't worry about getting them perfect, because you will be able to re-organize them at any time. Enter the name of the folder, and click Create folder. In the example below, I created a folder called "Workshop"

▼ You should now see the folder created. By the side of it you have the options to edit or delete. Let's add some more details to our folder by giving it a description. Click the Edit button.

▼ You will now see a new section appearing below. Enter description for your folder.  When you have finished, click Save changes. The descriptions will appear in the information next to the folder under Description.

Go ahead and make as many folders as you like.

▼ After creating folders, we can add files into the folders. Click into one of the folders. You will notice that there is an option at the top of the page called Upload file, check the Yes button to agree that the file you are going to upload is yours. Then, under the File option, click Choose File or Browse to search for a file from your own computer that you would like to add to your Portfolio. Choose the file you want and click Open. You will see a spinning progress wheel that is telling you that your file is uploading. Be patient and let Mahara do its work—the larger the file, the longer it takes to upload.

▼ When the file has uploaded, the spinning progress wheel will turn into a confident check mark and you will see that your file has appeared in your files area. By the side of it you have the options to Edit or Delete. Let's add some more details to the file by giving it a description. Just like adding the description to folders. Click the Edit button and write in your description for your file. This will appear in the information next to the file under Description. When you have finished, click Save changes. Below you can see that I have uploaded a file called "4math1.doc"

▼ You have learnt how to create folders and upload files to your repository. You can upload any files to this area, e.g. a word-processed document, a spreadsheet, an audio or video clip, a PDF, etc,. Here is an example of File.

After uploading different files to this area as repository, you can add your files to any Mahara pages to share to other people.
