Week 2 was translation, drama and verse speech practice. It is ended with the introduction to Putonghua test and the visit to Cathay Pacific City.

After a week’s introduction to translation and interpretation, I felt more familiar with the rules when translating the words. On Tuesday, Mr Ng talked a lot about the prospect of being a translator. He described his effort he had made over the years when he was young. The most impressive thing was that at the beginning, he had to do his job with no charge to show his enthusiasm. It seemed very hard to bear. Through his talk, I thought I somehow knew what was depressed behind every translator. Also, I discovered that my written Chinese was really not good and I have to read and write more to improve it.

The practice of Putonghua and verse speech was pretty boring and time-consuming. However, I found that it is enjoyable when everybody has the same goal and does their very best to achieve it. The thing that disappointed me was that not the whole class was eager to participate. Some were just not showing their interest. It really affect the atmosphere when everybody were trying to give the best performance.

At last, the visit to Cathay Pacific City was bad. The time is not enough indeed. I thought the guide was not friendly at all! She was talking the phone during our visit and was not willing to talk to us! I knew I should not have many complaints but I really felt surprised as she does not care the image of the company that she belonged to.
