My teaching philosophy
Teaching to me is to enlighten. As learning ablity is a natural born gift, i believe everyone can be a mater in their areas. What teachers do in the classroom, is to help the learners find out their potentials and provide adequate support to cultivate their interests and build a dialogue for them to connect with the professional areas where the students are longing for. Teacher is not authority, but a consultatnt, and an intellectual who holds a critical view towards political and social affairs.
I'm a language teacher. I have a BA in English linguistics and a MA in Chinese linguistics, and I teach both English and Chinese at universities. I believe that education is language education, since language is a defining quality of what it concerns to be human. Vygotsky's (1978) sociocultural theory and van Lier's (2004) ecological perspective of language and education has influenced and shaped my teaching philosophy.
